Immortal Dragon Vancouver: Rules and Regulations

Dear {name},

Congratulations on joining Immortal Dragon! You've taken the first step on an exciting martial arts journey. To ensure your success and the harmony of our school, please familiarize yourself with the following rules and regulations.

Our Philosophy

At Immortal Dragon, we teach not only martial arts but also values and habits. Our goal is to empower you to do great things in life. Through consistent training, you will become more assertive, physically strong, and disciplined, while learning to defend yourself.

General Etiquette

  1. Respect: Show respect to the art, your Sifu, instructors, and fellow students at all times. The respectful term for your head instructor is "Sifu." If it’s an assistant instructor it’s Si-Hing (male) or Si- Jei (female).

  2. Salutation: Salute when entering or leaving the school to show respect and leave your troubles at the door.

  3. Punctuality: Be on time for class. Arrive at least 10-15 minutes early to prepare. If you're late, salute the instructor and ask for indications.

  4. Attendance: Regular attendance is required. Notify Sifu in advance if you'll miss class for a week or longer.

  5. Language: Refrain from using profanities during class.

  6. Mobile Devices: Turn off mobile phones or set them to silent mode during class.

  7. Focus: Keep chat to a minimum, especially when Sifu or an instructor is explaining something. Socialize before and after class.

  8. Family Atmosphere: Treat all Immortal Dragon students and instructors as family—respect, protect, and work with each other. Avoid aggression or ego-driven behavior.

  9. Seniority: Respect students who enrolled before you for their seniority. Help new students learn our traditions and movements.

Training and Practice

  1. Uniform: Always wear a clean uniform to class. The required workout uniform is the black Kung Fu pants/ jacket and an Immortal Dragon school T-shirt or approved Kung Fu or sports top. Remove all jewelry and watches during class.

  2. Personal Hygiene: Maintain good personal hygiene out of respect for your classmates and instructors.

  3. Practice: Train hard and seriously during class. Practice your forms before and after class, and at home daily.

  4. Safety: Safety is paramount. When practicing with others, maintain respect and consideration by using control at all times. Do not practice dangerous or advanced techniques without proper supervision.

  5. Instruction: Only practice what Sifu or an assistant instructor has taught you. Do not teach new moves to each other unless approved to do so.

  6. Rest: If you need to rest during class, let Sifu or the assistant instructor know and wait for indications. Do not leave the training area without permission once class has started.

  7. Weapons: Weapons may not be used without instructor supervision. Children especially may not touch weapons without permission.

School Maintenance

  1. Cleanliness: Help keep our school clean. At the end of each class, sweep and mop the floor where you trained. Once a week, the whole school should be cleaned.

  2. Responsibility: Keeping the training area, bathroom, and general the room clean is the responsibility of all students without being told.

Personal Development

  1. Continuous Learning: Be curious and ask questions. Read widely on martial arts, meditation, yoga, chi kung, Chinese medicine, philosophy, and similar subjects. The purpose of martial arts training is to teach you how to live, not how to fight.

  2. Attributes: Cultivate respect, loyalty, humility, tolerance, patience, endurance, self-restraint, and common sense.

  3. Public Behavior: Avoid practicing or demonstrating Kung Fu in public places. Do not show off to boost your ego.

  4. Self-Defense: Use martial arts knowledge and skills for legitimate self-defense purposes only. Fighting and misuse of the art are grounds for immediate dismissal.

  5. Role Model: Be a positive role model and lead by example in and outside the school.

Administrative Matters

  1. Tuition: Class fees are due each month on the day of the month you started and should be paid in a timely manner. Feel free to discuss any financial concerns with Sifu.

  2. Communication: If you're worried or have questions about anything going on in the school, feel free to ask Sifu Matthias for guidance or clarification.

  3. Health: If you feel sick or have an injury, come to class as long as it's not contagious. Sifu will provide alternative activities or treatment if necessary.

Remember, Kung Fu is challenging, but don't give up! Keep coming, keep learning, and if you feel unmotivated, talk to Sifu Matthias.

Failure to adhere to these Rules and Regulations may result in suspension or expulsion with forfeiture of rank. Always remember: "Many are called, but few are chosen."

Train hard, cultivate your spirit, and may your Kung Fu flourish like the Immortal Dragon!
